Promoting an active approach and a greater insertion in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Nigeria and the Central African countries in general, by means of the strengthening of our agenda; the establishment of channels for political dialog; the opening and consolidation of new markets for our products and services; the search and implementation of cooperation projects, and cultural diffusion aimed at promoting our country’s image.
Fostering our relations with Africa in the multilateral sphere, especially in the fields of peace and international security, democracy and good governance, and the promotion of human rights. This would contribute to strengthen a fundamental focus of our foreign policy, which is to renew and strengthen the multilateral system.
Strengthening the presence of Chile in the Kenya-based International Environmental Organisms.
Objectives
In order to fulfill our Mission and go forward with the foreign policy strategy designed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding Kenya and the countries of East, Central and West Africa, the Embassy has followed, among others, the following actions:
Implementing mechanisms of Bilateral Policy Consultations.
Expanding our presence in Africa through the resident mission in Kenya, and the concurrent accreditations in Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia and Nigeria.
Organizing inter-governmental seminars on Development Cooperation, in order to set a platform to start processes of bilateral political dialogs, foster trade and implement cooperation programs. The Third Seminar was carried out conjointly with the Embassy of Chile in South Africa this year in Maputo.
Organizing introductory and work tours for Government authorities.
Increasing the commercial and services exchange, diversifying it through contacts, the promotion of our offer and diffusion of opportunities among Chilean companies.
Identifying potential cooperation areas and establishing necessary contacts to agree on cooperation mechanisms. Among the areas already existent and where the current cooperation has to be maintained and strengthened we can find training for diplomats and for staff of army and police institutions, training related to search and rescue (SAR), cooperation related to information technologies with the Internal Revenue Service in Kenya, the fight against poverty, infrastructure, agriculture and forest matters.
Supporting the Chilean community, especially those who develop work in the isolated areas of Sudan and Somalia.
Serving as observation point for the crisis in Darfur (Sudan) and Somalia.
Expanding our presence to the 53 countries of the continent, seizing the opportunity of Chile’s entry as observer country of the African Union.
Appointment of honorary consuls in the countries of concurrent accreditation to support the Ambassador’s task and serve as a satellite for topics related to supporting the Chilean resident community or commercial relations.
Exploring energy supply possibilities in the African Continent.
Continuing the monitoring process of the Africa-South American Summit and coordinating this topic at the African Union.
Scheduling and implementing activities of cultural dissemination to make known national art and our image.
