 | GLOBAL DESIGN
All UNITYMAKERS furniture is conceived by American designer Eric Engdahl. A designer from childhood, he earned a Master of Architecture degree from Pratt Institute in New York City. His global perspective on design stems from his work in New York, Shanghai, Chicago, Dubai, Montreal, and now Nairobi.
His design process combines the traditional pencil and paper with cutting-edge computer modeling, following the latest international trends in parametric design. This meticulous design process results in modern furniture that is unlike anything else in Kenya. Eric carefully chooses the right materials and works closely with Kenyan craftsmen to ensure each design becomes a beautiful finished piece of furniture.
SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS
We believe that it is possible to create quality hardwood furniture without harming our environment. To that end, UNITYMAKERS is committed to responsibly sourcing timber. We are seeking partnerships with NGOs, relevant government authorities, and directly with individual harvesters to ensure that the wood we use is sustainably harvested.
KENYAN CRAFT
All of our furniture is made in our workshop in Kawangware in Nairobi, Kenya. Not only is this good for the local economy, but it also allows us to carefully control the production process in order to offer the best quality to our customers. Our Kenyan craftsmen are skilled and experienced, working in an environment where teamwork and safety are priorities. This may not be the cheapest or easiest way to make furniture, but we believe it’s worth it.
